Every site has an unwritten policy: the five-minute grace period, the way the lunch break is treated, what happens when someone clocks in twice. Buying a terminal takes an afternoon. Encoding those rules so the report comes out right takes a conversation. That conversation is the part of the deployment worth spending time on, and it is the part we insist on having before we configure anything.
Where clocking systems get gamed
Card systems get gamed by lending cards. Fingerprint systems do not, which is the single strongest argument for biometrics in attendance rather than in access. If buddy-punching is a real cost at your site, the payback on a biometric terminal is usually measured in months.
