The Tapo TD21 is a wireless, battery-powered doorbell camera. Because it draws no mains power and needs no chime wiring, it mounts to the door frame or the wall beside it in under an hour, which makes it the practical choice for the overwhelming majority of HDB and condominium doors.

An ultra-wide 5MP sensor captures the full doorway from floor to head height, so a package left on the ground is in frame alongside the person who left it. Motion detection pushes a notification to your phone the moment someone approaches, and two-way audio lets you speak to a courier without opening the door.

Footage is retained for thirty days or more depending on the storage option you select at installation.

Wireless or wired — the honest trade-off

A battery doorbell records on motion. A wired doorbell records continuously. That single difference decides most cases. If what you want is to see who rang and who walked past, the wireless TD21 is more than sufficient and installs in an hour. If you want a continuous archive of everything that happened outside your door, you want the wired unit.

Battery life in a Singapore corridor

Expect three to six months between charges on a typical residential door. The variable is not the camera, it is the traffic. A door on a busy corner of the corridor triggers far more often than a door at the end of it, and each trigger costs battery. We set the detection zone during installation to ignore corridor through-traffic, which is usually worth a month or two of runtime.

Will it work if my door is metal?

Yes. We use an angle wedge and appropriate fixings. Metal gates in front of the door can affect the wireless signal, which we check during installation.

Typically every three to six months, depending on how much motion the door sees. The app tells you the remaining charge.
